| About Van Der Horst |
Van Der Horst Technologies Phils., Inc. (VDHT) traces its origin to the man who developed porous krome technique.
In 1924, the commercial process of chromium plating was developed at Columbia University. The hard chrome process using original 100:1 sulfate bath was in commercial application around 1930. During that time many experiments were carried out in surface treatment of diesel engine cylinder liner bores to make it harder. One of them is by electrolytic deposition, where chromium is built up literally atom by atom. The properties which make chromium such a useful engineering material are its ability to carry very high loads, its hardness and low coefficient of friction, its suitability for building up worn components, its very high resistance to mechanical wear, its comparatively high resistance to corrosive attacks, its mechanical strength at high temperature, its ability to remain clean and free of sticky products.
